Bøger læst 2016

I'm happy to announce that my first book completed this year is yet another one of Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs novels "Among the mad". Pure entertainment - but of the highest quality! =) It is now the end of June and I have just finished the 11th Maisie Dobbs novel (The Mapping of Love and Death,  A Lesson in Secrets, Elegy for Eddie, Leaving Everything Most Loved, A Dangerous Place)

I'm quite loving reading Julian Barnes Booker-prize winning "The Sense of and Ending". As well as "The Noise of Time"

I love four of the five novels nominated to DR Roman Pris which I read. The only one I did not like was  Jacob Skyggebjerg's novel "Hvad mener du med vi", which was horrible. The others were quite good. Ane Riel's "Harpiks" was especially enjoyable. Ida Jessens "En ny tid" was also really good.

"The Strange Library" af Murakmi I still a big fan and enjoyed this strange story about the strange library!

"Wonder" af R.J. Palacio a Christmas gift from my neice Rory (9) and nephew Ian (6). A very beautiful novel for children. August er født med et deformt ansigt og ser anderledes ud, men indeni er han som alle andre. Han er lige startet som ny i 5. klasse og det er ikke helt let. At first I had a hard time sleeping after reading because it was so heartbreaking but it ended up being powerfully heartwarming! I highly recommend this book! Thank you Rory and Ian!

My Mom gave me two books this year, both written over real life stories. The first was "The boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown. Cast aside by his family at an early age, abandoned and left to fend for himself in the woods of Washington State, young Joe Rantz turns to rowing as a way of escaping his past. What follows is an extraordinary journey, as Joe and eight other working-class boys exchange the sweat and dust of life in 1930s America for the promise of glory at the heart of Hitler's Berlin. It was really interesting and an enjoyable read. The second book was "The Lady in Gold" by Anne-Marie O'Connor". It was very poorly written and a struggle to get through. I read it to the end because of the beautiful card that my mother wrote with it and because we together saw Klimt's painting at The Neue Gallery in New York after Mark's funeral in January. Mark (my cousin's son who took his life).

I love reading Dodie Smith's "I capture the castle".

John Williams' "Augustus" was wonderful"

My second Julian Barnes novel "The Noise of Time" was fantastic. I'm going to read everything this guy wrote!

Tao Lin's "Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy" was very interesting!

David Nicholls' Us was really enjoyable - about the couple of the verge of divorce who take a trip of Europe with their teenage son. Nicholls is really good at describing real-life tensions in families. And his dialogue is witty.

My third Julian Barnes novel Arthur & George. Omkring år 1900 dømmes den halvt indiske advokat George Edalji for dyremishandling. A. Conan Doyle har mistanke om justitsmord og tager sagen op. I loved it. Really enjoying reading this author!
